Jimmy Powell Cricket Oval, Grand Cayman (Bermuda won the toss): Bermuda beat Cayman Islands A by eight wickets
Bermuda warmed up for the North American Cup by making light work of Cayman Islands A in Grand Cayman on Wednesday.
Left-arm spinner Kevon Fubler picked up four wickets for 15 runs, former captain Delray Rawlins took three for 19 on his return to the national side, while seamer Zeko Burgess had two for 11, as Cayman A were bundled out for 88 runs in 19.3 overs.
Captain Terryn Fray led Bermuda’s run chase with an unbeaten 40, while Rawlins chipped in with 39 batting at No 4. Bermuda lost only Alex Dore (11) and Marcus Scotland (0) on their way to wrapping up the match in the thirteenth over.
As there were overs still left in the match, Cal Waldron gave his batters more time in the middle to see off the remaining balls of the 20-over contest.
Earlier on, the Bermudian bowlers never allowed their opponents to settle after winning the toss and opting to field. Only three Cayman A batters achieved double figures, with opener Antwan Ifill the top scorer on 20. The 12 extras given away by the Bermuda attack gave the home team’s total some respectability.
Another warm-up fixture is lined up for Bermuda on Thursday, when they take on a Cayman President’s XI on Thursday.
The two matches will afford Waldron, who is working with West Indies coach Andre Coley, an opportunity to assess the players before the start of the North American Cup on Saturday.
In the five-team tournament, Bermuda begin their campaign against Canada on Saturday, before taking on Cayman and the US on Sunday and Monday respectively. After a rest day, they complete the group stage by playing Bahamas on April 23.
