On day one of the North American Cup, an international Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by ICC Americas which is being played in Cayman Islands, saw USA beat the host by 79 runs and Canada securing a five wicket win against Bermuda. The five participating national teams are United States, Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands.
USA vs Cayman Islands
The United States got their North America T20 Cup campaign off to a dominant start with a comprehensive 79-run win over hosts Cayman Islands in the opening match held in George Town on April 19, 2025.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the USA posted an imposing total of 186 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Monank Patel led from the front with a blistering 76 off 45 balls, striking five fours and four sixes en route to earning the Player of the Match honors. He was well supported by opener Shayan Jahangir, who chipped in with a quick 39, and Saiteja Mukkamalla’s brisk 17 off just 10 deliveries.
The Cayman Islands bowlers struggled to contain the American batters, with Romario Edwards and Conroy Wright picking up two wickets each. However, USA’s aggressive strokeplay and smart running between the wickets kept the run rate high throughout the innings.
Chasing 187 for victory, the Cayman Islands were never truly in the hunt. They lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to build any meaningful partnerships. Jermaine Baker’s attacking 30 off 20 balls provided a brief spark at the top of the order, but once he departed, the hosts crumbled under sustained pressure from the USA bowlers.
Yasir Mohammad was the pick of the bowlers for the USA, claiming 4 wickets for just 20 runs. Saurabh Netravalkar also bowled a tight spell, finishing with figures of 2 for 19. Cayman Islands eventually managed only 107 for 7 from their 20 overs.
Canada vs Bermuda
Canada registered a comfortable five-wicket win over Bermuda in the second match of the North America T20 Cup, held at Jimmy Powell Oval. With a strong bowling performance and a calm chase, Canada showcased their early tournament intent.
Bermuda, having won the toss, elected to bat first but struggled to build momentum throughout their innings. Captain Terryn Fray held the innings together with a steady 52 off 54 balls, but he received little support from the rest of the lineup. Only Delray Rawlins (34) offered resistance, while a flurry of middle and lower-order collapses saw Bermuda finish at a modest 105 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Canada’s bowlers were clinical, with left-arm pacer Kaleem Sana stealing the spotlight. He claimed 4 wickets for just 17 runs in his four overs, earning the Player of the Match award. Jaskaran Singh also impressed, picking up 3 for 11 in his four-over spell, applying pressure during the crucial middle overs.
In reply, Canada got off to a cautious start. Skipper Navneet Dhaliwal led the way with a brisk 29 from 20 deliveries, hitting two fours and two sixes. Although Bermuda chipped away with regular wickets, Canada’s Harsh Thaker anchored the chase with an unbeaten 36 off 34 balls. He was supported by Shreyas Movva (11*) as Canada reached the target in 18.1 overs, finishing at 108 for 5.
Despite Bermuda’s efforts to defend a low total, Canada’s disciplined approach with both bat and ball proved too strong. With this victory, Canada joins the USA on the winners’ list and sets up an exciting contest between the top contenders in the days ahead.
